Girl Warriors: How 25 Young Activists Are Saving the Earth (Chicago Review Press, 2021) is a call to global action through the lives of these extraordinary youth leaders.

I interviewed climate activists all over the world — from Ireland and Pakistan to Colombia and Uganda — to tell their stories as they fight for your future.

My journey does not match that of most journalism majors.

I shocked my parents by dropping out of Reed College and boarding a bus to La Paz, Mexico, where I got a job teaching English. My students that year were not much younger than me, but thanks to my years of taking Spanish classes at a public high school in California, I had the basic conversation skills to connect with these teens.

A year later, back in the U.S. I realized that I loved writing as much as teaching, so when I was 21, I talked my way into a job interview as a staff news reporter at a weekly newspaper. I

landed the job.

Here’s what I offer.

Author

My most recent book is Girl Warriors: How 25 Young Activists Are Saving the Earth (April 2021, Chicago Review Press). I'm currently finishing my next nonfiction book about women climate leaders around the world, due out in 2023.

Teacher

I teach writers of all genres online at Left Margin LIT. In this journal-writing inspired class, we follow a series of open-ended, timed prompts to keep our pens to page. Whether you're starting a new project or needing a boost to your productivity, a deadline will help you get the words down.

Journalist

I'm an independent journalist who has been published in places like The Washington Post, YES! Magazine, and POPSUGAR. I shifted the focus of my writing to the climate during the devastating California wildfires of 2018.
